Skyscanner is a leading global travel search site, providing instant online comparisons for millions of flights, as well as car hire and hotels.
Due to rapid expansion of their business Skyscanner moved into a new Head Office in Edinburgh and then subsequently opened an office in Glasgow, with both buildings featuring contemporary, bespoke interior design schemes with a requirement for interior planting.
GP Plantscape were given a brief to provide interior planting that would ‘create office space that was different, vibrant, flexible and appeal to a younger workforce’ whilst also providing some definition to create individual working areas and delineate walkways. Renee MacKenzie said ‘At Skyscanner we wanted to provide our staff with a work environment designed to improve staff health and lower workplace stress while simultaneously enhancing creativity and productivity.
A big part of our culture involved the incorporation of plants into our design, for both decorative and sound barrier purposes.” Our solution provided a combination of Cube and UNC containers, with a contemporary smooth, satin finish in a bright white or light grey. Planting schemes included, Polyscia Fabien and Testrastigma, to act as natural barriers and sound absorbers within the open plan office. The planters provide subtle screening to main circulation routes and also allows Skyscanner’s facilities team to create ‘stand-up meeting / collaboration areas quickly, efficiently and too good effect. The UNC containers were planted with Sanseveria and Strelitzia to provide striking displays in strategic locations. Bridget Curved containers planted with Dracaena Surculosa, curved Marilyns and in the main reception area white smooth satin Easter Island Containers planted with Calathea Triostar and Aglaonema were installed for maximum impact.
Following the success of the installation at Edinburgh, when Skyscanner opened their Glasgow office GP Plantscape were asked to provide a similar solution based on the same brief.
“Staff at GP Plantscape were able to take our vision and utilise planters & plants to both complement and enhance our work environment. When I was trying to source small tables for our reception, Andrea at GP Plantscape exceeded my service expectations by recommending round planters that could be built to my required specifications. These so suited our purpose that we’ve since replicated the order in another office. I’m very much satisfied with the service from GP Plantscape and anticipate a long relationship between our companies. “ Renee MacKenzie, Skyscanner.
In 2014 GP Plantscape were awarded a BALI Award in the category of Interior Installation on this project.“Staff at GP Plantscape were able to take our vision and utilise planters & plants to both complement and enhance our work environment.
